Okay…..So we have a thing for Purple!
This church is known more as the Purple Door Church than it is as the Grove City United Methodist Church. The Purple Door Church is known in this community as a church that is active and alive in many areas of service and outreach. That’s just who we are.
There is a theological foundation to our Purple Doors. The purple on the doors is something intended to be much more than a unique characteristic. Purple is the color of royalty! Through these doors pass the royalty of God! Our royalty is not a status we have earned. We are who we are because of Him to Whom we belong.
Every time we go through these purple doors, we represent Christ’s Royalty: both as we enter to be filled, and as we go out to serve.
As Peter writes in 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, God’s own people that you may declare the wonderful deeds of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
If we truly believe that we are the representation of Christ the King, then our actions need to reflect it.
My truck’s license plate is PRPLDOR. I have to remember that whenever I am behind that wheel I not only represent myself, but I also represent the Church, and ultimately, Christ. Cutting people off and running red lights just won’t work. What it does mean is that I stop more often to let people turn, I don’t get angry when I’m the one being cut off, and I may even pay for the person behind me in the drive-thru. My life needs to reflect the Christ that I represent.
It’s not enough to just go to the Purple Door Church or wear the purple shirts – we need to represent Christ the King as we do. We need to BE the Purple. We need to LIVE THE PURPLE!
We are a chosen people…Let’s live a life that shows Christ through us.
