My dad has been dead since 1983, but every now and then I see him.
No, I’m not hallucinating. Sometimes I wonder, but I think I do have a sense of reality. But I do see and hear him.
Sometimes I hear his laugh, or a phrase he always used to say. Sometimes I look out and see him looking back at me. And I smile, and he always smiles back. Once again, I had looked in the mirror and been amazed to see my dad looking back at me. For you see, the older I get the more I look like my father did. And the more I act like him and sound like him as well.
In a very real sense, I can say, “Whoever has seen me, has seen my father.” It helps me to understand what Jesus meant when he spoke the same words. Jesus showed us God through his example and life.
Fathers- What kind of father do you see in the mirror for your own children? Do your children see God through you? Do you show God through your example and life? In 10, or 20, or 30 years from now, what kind of image in the mirror will your children have of you?
And even more importantly, when I look into that mirror that reflects my life- what image of God do I see and know?
