ONGOING LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES – The Missions Task Force has made some recurring commitments on an ongoing basis to assist those in need in the Columbus area. Volunteers are needed to fulfill those commitments.
Faith Mission – The Purple Door Church has committed to serve every fourth Friday at the Faith Mission in downtown Columbus. This Requires 6 people for 1 to 1½ hours on odd numbered months from 5–6:30pm to serve the women only. On even numbered months, the need is for 6 people to serve both the men and women from 5–8:30pm. There are no skills required, just a desire to serve with a smile and carry on friendly conversation with the clients. To sign up CLICK HERE or contact Jan Scharenberg at 614-266-0922 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Westgate UMC Thursday Dinners – Several Thursday evenings a year we are committed to purchasing, preparing and serving dinner to “at risk” adults and families on the west side. A simple dinner for around 50 participants is prepared by the volunteers and then served to the clients of the church. This is part of an outreach program by this very small church which cannot provide either the resources or volunteers needed for this program alone and counts on the assistance of larger congregations such as ours. For information on how you can help, contact Dave Baker at 614-871-5664 or at email@example.com.
Grove City ACTS – ACTS (Active Christians Transforming Society) is a yearly event, generally in May, that is sponsored by many of the churches in Grove City. It is a one day event that provides landscaping, cleaning, painting, small home repairs to those who are physically and/or financially unable to get these tasks done on their own. With so many churches in the city providing volunteers and projects it is a huge undertaking that literally takes over the city for that one day in May. Notice will be posted in the Weekly Update well ahead of the event to get projects and volunteers. Please contact David Walters at 614-419-1602 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
YEARLY MISSIONS PROJECTS (Nationwide or Foreign) – Through the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) and The United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM)
Flood Buckets – This nationwide program provides cleaning supplies to those who have had their homes ravaged by floods. Once a year we conduct a campaign to collect the needed supplies and put together the kits in 5 gallon buckets. We ask for contributions of specific supplies for this effort.Watch for tables set up in the great hall and notices in the weekly update. Please contact David Walters at 614-419-1602 or email@example.com for more information.
School Kits – In the summer of each year we collect specific school supplies that are put into book bags made by volunteers from our church. We collect the specific supplies from contributors within the congregation so that we can assemble the kits and ship them to a staging depot where they are distributed worldwide to those in need of these vital tools for education. Watch for tables set up in the great hall and notices in the weekly update. For more information contact Harriet Saunders at 614-270-4703 firstname.lastname@example.org.
